Since the announcement that City Of Bones was being made into a film I have been patiently waiting to watch it.
The Mortal Instruments is one of my favorite series that I have ever read. Its up in the top ten with Lauren Kate's Fallen, Maggie Stiefvater's The Wolves of Mercy Falls, Pittacus Lore's Lorien Legacies AND of course The Hunger Games and Harry Potter.
I was very afraid that I would dislike the film adaptation of The Mortal Instruments much alike I disliked The Hunger Games film. The Hunger Games pissed me off to no end due to the weird shaky action shots, the lack of the dead tributes eyes in the mutts (which I thought was one of the most important bit because it showed how sadistic and cruel the game makers were), there was no Madge and the fact the ending was cut so we were unable to see Peeta's reaction when he found out that Katniss' "feelings" were all "pretend" (Actually I don't think it was very apparent in the film she was faking it at all.)
However, I personally think that The Mortal Instruments stuck to the book perfectly though of course a couple of minor scenes were left out. The were only 3 major differences I noticed were non existence of Church the cat, the fact the Valentine was too young and did not have white hair (but after watching a interview with the direction and the actor I understood why they did it and I think it was actually very clever of them) AND finally, the only thing that really really irritated me was that Simon did not turn into a rat. I thought the fact Simon turned into a rodent was so funny and we were unable to hear several of Jace's witty comments because of the lack of this humorous event. However, I understand that maybe the scene wasn't necessary and that they were trying to make the film a little more serious to keep the momentum of the search of Clary's mother and the mortal cup.
I think that the film may be hard to keep up with if you didn't know what was happening, so I would recommend to read the book before hand. Actually, you should read the book no matter what because the books are ALWAYS better then the film with the exception of Breaking Dawn where I thought the film was better due to the kick ass battle scene shown at the end from Alice's vision.
I was over the moon with the actors cast for the film. Lily Collins is the perfect Clary and we all know how much I adore Jamie Campbell Bower as Jace as discussed in my previous blog entry. Though I did not think that Godfrey Gao had enough glitter on, a little more glitter on Magnus Bane in the next film because he is so fabulous.
My favorite scene is the Green House scene as I am a soppy git. I actually cried because it was just as I imagined it as I read the books, correction, it was better then I imagined. I thought Jace's smile mid kiss was the cutest that has ever graced earth.
I am going to sign off now before my head explodes from over fan girling.
So this has been ...
and that is all for today.
